KĀMAKA – DOMAINE GRAEME & JULIE BOTT – OFFICIAL RELEASE

Our wine KĀMAKA is produced on the exceptional terroir located in Seyssuel. A real “wine made from rocks“, all vines were planted by hand with the help of a metal bar in rough mica schist rocks.

It was clear to explain the nature of the soil in the name of our cuvée. And when a New Zealander – KiwiWinemaker treads the soil of Seyssuel … it gives “KĀMAKA” which in Māori means rock and or stones.

Facing the CÔTE-RÔTIE lies the beautiful terroir and vineyards of SEYSSUEL. Dating back to the Roman era, it was one of the most famous vineyards in France. Although it was ravaged at the beginning of the twentieth century by phylloxera, it started to be replanted in the 90’s thanks to several great winemakers of the Northern Rhone Valley. This vineyard region now has more than 50 hectares planted in Syrah & Viognier.

The idea of reviving this part of history has only strengthened our motivation to develop our domaine on these steep hillsides. It was in 2016 that we acquired our first beautiful plots with soil of gneiss and micaschists situated in Seyssuel and then in the commune of Chasse sur Rhône. We have integrated the Association Vitis Vienna formed today of 18 winegrowers.

This vineyard is in the process of obtaining a protected appellation of origin (AOP), it should integrate the family of Côtes du Rhône, then become a Cru. The application is being studied at the INAO…

Feel free to lose yourself in the vineyards of Seyssuel, the place is simply magical and laden with history…
